BlackBerry 9020 (Onyx) to Get Optical Trackpad Afterall
Ooops. Remember Wednesday when we dropped word on the blogs that the Onyx had been tagged the 9020 and that we had also heard the trackball would be staying on the final version?? Well we've got good news – it turns out that in regards to the trackball, that's not the case!!! Upon further digging, and double confirming with some trusty peeps who have now actually seen it, there are already now Onyx's in existence that in fact have the optical trackpad (currently featured in the Curve 8520 – pictured above on right). The new and improved word is that the Onyx's buttons have received a slight redesign to accomodate the inclusion of the trackpad and that the 9020 will go to market with it. Awesome. This all jives well with previous word (dating back to May) that the Onyx/Driftwood would definitely be getting it (even though pre-release devices were sporting trackballs). As for why the Onyx didn't have the trackpad in place from the get-go, I think part of the reason has to do with the fact the Curve 85xx was designed by RIM's Florida team (tasked with reducing costs/replacement), while the onyx was/is being developed by RIM's German design team, obviously somewhat in parallel. Though the trackpad isn't a 'perfect' solution (check out this forum post of where it has let me down just once in over six weeks of use), as I've gushed many times in the blogs already I'm absolutely in love with it. Now I'm truly excited for the Onyx. I can't wait to see photos of the updated device. The only bad news here is for the those who have pre-release Onyx's… it's hard to say (I'm guessing it's doubtful??) that future firmware upgrades will continue to support the trackball with the trackpad now going in place. Ah well.. them is the breaks. Bring on the trackpad! CrackBerry.com’s feed sponsored by ShopCrackBerry.com. BlackBerry 9020 (Onyx) to Get Optical Trackpad Afterall
FUN: Freddy Falling for the BlackBerry Storm
Freddy Falling is a new game for the BlackBerry Storm that's sure to be a hit. It was developed by Lone Dwarf Games, the same guys who made the retro shooter game Wrath that has become one of my personal favorites.
How To Downgrade Your BlackBerry’s Operating System
Class is in session… Today's lesson will be on how to downgrade the OS (operating system…aka firmware aka device software) on your BlackBerry. Some of you may have chosen to upgrade to 5.0 or some other OS that isn't just right for you. Luckily, BlackBerry smartphones are one of the easiest (in my opinion) to downgrade. I chose to upgrade to 5.0 on my Curve 8900 (using Desktop Manager 4.6) and I want to go back down to 4.6.1.168 (my favorite). CrackBerry.com’s feed sponsored by ShopCrackBerry.com. Leaked: BlackBerry Desktop Manager Software 5.0
With BlackBerry 5.0 device software for the BlackBerry Bold and BlackBerry Curve 8900 leaking onto the interwebs this week, it only makes sense that Destop Manager 5.0 software would follow suit. Big thanks goes out to sliderz once again for sending us in the link. I'm not sure how close this software is to being in final form considering it hasn't been officially released by RIM, but it looks to be the same as in the Desktop Manager 5.0 preview we brought you a couple weeks back. After unzipping the file and installing on my PC, the software seems to be working fine and loaded up 5.0.0.90 onto my Curve 8900 without issue. But as usual with this kind of thing, ** Install and Use at Own Risk ** BlackBerry Curve 8900 OS 5.0.0.90 Found Online
What a week for BlackBerry OS 5.0. On Monday we brought you a video sneak peak of 5.0 (app version 5.0.0.83) running on a BlackBerry Curve 8900. A few days later, OS 5.0 leaks for the BlackBerry Bold 9000 (Michael just gave it a nice screen cap walk through). Now OS 5.0.0.90 has been found online for the BlackBerry Curve 8900 (big thanks to sliderz for sending in the link). It's going to be nice to see 5.0 get rolled out.
